About the MPJE

The Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Examination (MPJE) is a computer-adaptive exam administered by the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP). It covers federal pharmacy law (~55%) and state-specific Board of Pharmacy regulations (~45%) in approximately 120 questions over 2.5 hours. Most U.S. states require passing the MPJE alongside the NAPLEX for initial pharmacist licensure.

What the MPJE Tests

The MPJE is a 2.5-hour adaptive exam (approximately 120 questions) covering:

  • Federal Pharmacy Law (approximately 55%) — DEA controlled substance regulations, DSCSA drug supply chain security, REMS risk management, HIPAA/HITECH privacy requirements, FDA drug approval and labeling.
  • Selected Jurisdiction Pharmacy Law (approximately 45%) — The selected Board of Pharmacy practice act, pharmacist and technician licensing, compounding regulations, prescription requirements, and dispensing rules specific to your jurisdiction.
