Tennessee pharmacy-law study guide

Prepare a Tennessee pharmacy-law review plan using the licensing board's current rules. Focus on board rules and licensing, pharmacy operations, controlled substance prescribing responsibilities. The $99 purchase covers Tennessee law only, without Federal law. Choose $125 for one state + Federal, or $180 for two distinct eligible states without Federal, subject to availability. Existing buyers retain their previously granted Federal access. Review Federal requirements separately and confirm which examination and licensing pathway applies to you.

Which law exam Tennessee uses

Tennessee is not on NABP's UMPJE participating-states list as of 10/21/2026 [S1], so candidates take the Tennessee version of the state-specific MPJE, which covers state and federal law [S2]. The Tennessee Board of Pharmacy sits in the Department of Health [S3]. Board Rule 1140-01-.05 requires both the MPJE and the NAPLEX for an initial license, and the MPJE for a license by reciprocity. After three failures in a row on either exam, the Board may require review courses before the next attempt [S7].

Tennessee rules that show up in law study

  • Technician ratio, 6:1 (Rule 1140-02-.02(7)). Technicians may not exceed six per pharmacist. The ratio may be removed if the extra technicians are certified. The pharmacist in charge can ask the Board in writing to change it, but cannot use the change until the Board approves it [S4].
  • Technician registration. Anyone working as a technician registers with the Board. The application needs an applicant-and-employer affidavit, the fee and a criminal background check [S4]. Probationary employees are exempt for up to 90 days [S4].
  • What certified technicians can add. They can receive new or transferred oral orders and transfer copies of orders between pharmacy practice sites [S4].
  • Pharmacist verification. Nothing a technician prepared goes to the patient without pharmacist verification [S4].
  • CSMD reporting (T.C.A. 53-10-305). Dispensers submit each business day and no later than close of business on the following business day. Veterinarians submit at least every 14 days [S5]. Practitioners register in the database within 30 days of receiving a DEA number [S5].
  • Continuing education (Rule 1140-05-.01). 30 hours every two-year cycle, at least 15 of them live [S6].
