Which law exam Rhode Island uses

Since April 1, 2026, the Rhode Island Board of Pharmacy requires the UMPJE. The Rhode Island MPJE is no longer offered. New graduates need the NAPLEX plus the UMPJE. Transfer applicants need the UMPJE plus an NABP license-transfer (ELTP) application [S1][S2].

Rhode Island rules worth knowing

  • CE. 15 hours every calendar year (Jan 1–Dec 31) under 216-RICR-40-15-1, including at least 1 hour of ACPE law and 5 live hours [S1][S3]. Licenses expire December 31 of even years [S1].
  • PDMP. Retail pharmacies report Schedule II–V prescriptions, including veterinary ones, within one business day [S1].
  • No fixed technician ratio. Pharmacies must keep enough pharmacists and technicians for the workload and provide adequate rest periods (216-RICR-40-15-1.6.1(E)) [S3].
