Claim

NCPDP Dispense as Written (DAW) / Product Selection codes document why a particular product was dispensed. Common exam anchors: 0 = no product selection indicated; 1 = substitution not allowed by prescriber; 2 = substitution allowed, patient requested brand.

Plain

DAW 0 default when selection isn’t an issue. DAW 1 = prescriber said brand. DAW 2 = patient wants brand though sub is allowed. Document the reason.
